Weddings are not so much beginnings as transitions. A rite of passage from boy to man; from girl to woman; from minor to adult, from child to parent. We make our promises before witnesses, seal our bargain with a kiss, and hand-in-hand set out with high hopes and the best of intentions. Ultimately, this union will produce new members of the human race, or maybe not, but that's the idea anyway. We know that sometimes things don't work out as planned, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
